Welcome! We are very happy to have you on Turkey’s best Star Wars fansite, Yildiz Savaslari . Com. Since we are having high traffic from outside of Turkey, we decided that it would be best if we prepared an introductory page in English, guiding you on our website. Before we begin with a little historical information, here is a quick link to our message boards (don’t worry, it is "English-only") . 1. History 2. Structure 3. Interviews 4. International Cooperations 5. Services 6. Contests 7. 2007 Status Report
The name of the web site, Yildiz Savaslari, is the direct Turkish translation of Star Wars (we know, it is hard to pronounce). We have been running this website since 2004, but prior to that, we existed as a fan group which was formed back in 2001. After three years of work, we have prepared content for our project and this fan group has transformed into Yildiz Savaslari . Com, a platform that is previously planned to gather a larger fan community. As of December 2007, Yildiz Savaslari . Com has more than 2160 members and also it has become a platform that is available for both Turkish and international visitors. Being aware of this international interest, we have also added a new chapter on our forums which is English spoken only, which is called “The Outlander Club”. You may visit this part of the forum by clicking here. We have also succeded in having a separate chapter for Turkey on TheForceNet boards. The website is composed of two parts, the main site and the forum board. Although the interactivity primarily takes place on the forum board, the main site is also interactive with the contributions of the members. Beside its databank-related sections, the main site has fanart and collectors gallery sections where members can share their artistic skills and the greatness of their collections as to be the primary force to become interactive and sharing-oriented. Additionally, Yildiz Savaslari . Com has sections such as Jedi Academy, where the natures of the Light Side, the Dark Side and the Shadow Side were told with detailed articles and "lessons"; a Games section where Star Wars games that ever released are reviewed in detail; and a monthly "highlight" file where a different case is examined in depth in each month. These aspects also turns Yildiz Savaslari . Com into the one and only Turkish resource for such information. The “Expanded Universe” part of the databank is relatively new and is currently under development. We are also having special case – articles from time to time, where dense information is given on a chosen subject, such as the lightsabers or the anatomy of Star Wars. There are many people asking if we are going to have an English version of the website, unfortunately the answer is no. Almost 90% of the content of the website is already translated from English to Turkish, so the original content is English and this is why we seek no need to have an English version. Since May 2006, we are lucky enough to have several different interviews with people who took part in Star Wars. We were able to contact Richard LeParmentier, who played Admiral Motti in A New Hope, and that had been our first interview ever. After that, we also interview Daniel Logan (Young Boba Fett – Ep II), Dave Prowse (Darth Vader – Ep IV-V-VI), Toby Philpott (Jabba Puppeteer – Ep VI), Gerald Home (Mon Calamari Officer/Tessek – Ep VI) and finally Shannon McRandle (Mara Jade – Photo Model). All interviews had been done via email. We were able to introduce ourselves to some of the actors/actresses personally on Celebration III and Celebration Europe. We have also interviewed a well-known Turkish fanfilm group and a Jedi Academy clan. 4. International Cooperations: Thanks to the Star Wars actor Gerald Home, we have built very good relationships with the Polish Star Wars website I.C.O. (Imperial City Online) on early September 2007, right after we had the interview. Near the end of that month, we had also started on a cooperation with the Belgian Star Wars website Teekay-421. The purpose of this cooperation is to share information, knowledge and experience between fans who live in different countries. We are aiming to have more countries in this alliance and we would be happy if you would like to be a part of it. For the first time in Turkey, we started to host a Star Wars podcast show called “Galaksinin Sesi” (Voice of the Galaxy in English). The first show was released on March 2007, it continues with three hosts and the length is approximately 20 minutes. At the beginning of each episode, there are sketches, mostly impersonations of Star Wars characters. On our August episode, we have given away a Kotobukiya statue to one of our listeners with a contest. Due to its success (and to our international cooperations) we released special episodes conpletely in English, which will be released once in every two months. These episodes are relatively shorter than the original and mainly focuses on international Star Wars news, mostly gathered from our allies. Also we started working on an e-magazine, which covers the unknown parts of the Star Wars universe. The magazine is released once in every three months, is in both PDF and CBR formats and is over a 100 pages long. We released the first issue on July 2007, the second on October 2007 and the third issue is due January 2008. Both the podcast and the magazine is available for download from our website. With the support of several Star Wars product merchandise companies, Yildiz Savaslari . Com had the opportunity to give away prizes to its board members. The members faced different types of challenges in each contest step, not the usual "answer the question" type. So far they were given tests, an online interactive puzzle or a live competition in the chat room. Intertoy: The first of all contests began with the support of Intertoy, the distributor of Hasbro in Turkey. The contestants won a Darth Vader Voice Changer helmet, an electronic light saber and 6 Unleashed figures. Another contest took place on the spring of 2006, Darth Vader costume set was the grand prize. Tiglon: The second of our prized contests had taken place with the support of Tiglon Home Entertainment, the distributor of Fox Home Entertainment. The contestants won 3 DVD and 10 VCD versions of Star Wars Episode III:Revenge of the Sith. İthaki: The third prized contest took place through mid-december with the support of İthaki, a company publishing Star Wars novels. The contestants won 5 "Han Solo's Revenge" novels. Dreamers: A local dealer of collectible items, Dreamers has donated a Kotobukiya Darth Vader statue on the summer of 2007. The contests are likely to continue on 2008. In shot, we can summarize what we have done during 2007:
